![]() The downside is that in the daytime it eliminates the visibility making it nearly impossible to see if the fire is approaching until its very close. The smoke is so dense & low laying that it’s choking the fire and slowing the spread. The fires have recently slowed, likely saving us, but that could change at anytime. Longtime community members & firefighters have been digging fire lines across Hope Mountain and around Takilma, water tankers have been mobilized, & folks have networked neighborhood bulldozers and have significant water. ![]() ![]() Quite miraculous given that just last night we thought everything might already be gone. Here’s the state of affairs – The fires have surrounded Takilma & the Illinois Valley, appear to have crested Hope Mountain yesterday, but remarkably have not yet made it the to valley floor where most of the community is. The wildfires, which have at times been nearly a mile away, have not (yet) engulfed our town of Takilma & the East Fork Ranch.
